A former Bethlehem Steel site in Sparrows Point, Maryland is now set to become a major manufacturing hub for offshore wind components through a $47 million grant from the US Maritime Administration. Sparrows Point sits on 100 acres of waterfront and will be transformed into a production facility for offshore wind projects, staging, and transport to sites off the East Coast. It will be key to establishing a domestic supply chain for loading and shipping as well as the manufacture of monopole foundations and towers needed for wind turbines.
