South George Street Assault Arrest

On July 14th, 2024, at approximately 3:17 am, Officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business in the 100 block of South George Street for the report of a male causing a disturbance. Upon arrival, Officers met with an employee who advised the individual was creating a disturbance and refused to leave. Officers spoke with the individual, who was later identified as Shauwn Kirby Layton. Shauwn was uncooperative and refused to provide his name. When told to leave several times, Shauwn began assaulting officers and was subsequently placed under arrest. Shauwn was taken to a local area hospital for evaluation. Through the investigation, the male was identified as Shauwn Kirby Layton. An application for charges was completed on Shauwn and an Arrest Warrant was issued. Shauwn was taken before a District Court Commissioner where he was held on a $5,000 bond.

Arrest: Shauwn Kirby Layton, Age 53, of Cumberland, Maryland.
Charges: Assault Second Degree, Two Counts of Trespassing, Disturbing the Peace, Resisting Arrest: and Obstructing and Hindering.
