Businesses along upper Mechanic and Centre Streets still have a chance to improve their business fronts with a façade grant through the City of Cumberland. Historic Preservation Planner Ruth Davis-Rogers tells WCBC there is still some money available in the program for buildings that are eligible…
“I think all the money is spoken for now except for about $3,000. We received $50,000 which was a matching grant. So, if somebody was doing a project that cost $10,000, the grant would pay $5,000 and then $5,000 would come from the property owner.”
The City is making plans for launching a similar program to assist businesses in the next targeted area of South Cumberland…
“We did apply for more façade grant money this year to focus on Virginia Avenue and we’re still waiting to hear from the Department of Housing and Community Development if we get that.”
