Research indicates that women are generally less well-off financially than their male counterparts, but they are likely to fare better in homeownership. The Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that women earn roughly 86% of what men earn weekly. A Lending Tree Analysis of the latest housing data shows single women are more likely to own a home in 47 of the 50 states. Single women own the largest share of homes in New Mexico, Mississippi, and West Virginia.
