The Allegany County Sheriff's Office in partnership with the Allegany County Health Department will be holding a Prescription Drug Take Back Event at the Lavale Lions Chicken BBQ on Saturday, October 19, 2024 from 12 noon to 4 pm.
Medicine take back options are the best way to safely dispose of unused or expired prescription and nonprescription (for example, over the counter) medicines.
Before disposing of prescription medicines, be sure to remove all personal information on pill bottle labels and medicine packaging. All of your medicines dropped off at the take back locations will be destroyed.
In 2023, 1,311 lbs of expired and unused medications were collected and removed from Allegany County!
It is important to properly dispose of old or unused medication. You should not throw old medications into the garbage, and NEVER give your old or unused medication to another person.
If you are unable to attend, there are permanent collection sites to safely and securely gather and dispose of your unused or expired medicines, including those that contain controlled substances.
Medication drop off locations are available all across Allegany County for convenient, easy and safe disposal of medications. Look for the GREEN BOX at:
