On Thursday a deputy operating in the area of Fairview Avenue, Cumberland, MD conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for failing to operate right of center. Upon contacting the operator Phillip Michael Piper (27 of Cumberland) the deputy noticed him to be excessively nervous. At that time a Sheriff's Office K9 was requested to respond to the scene. Upon the arrival of the K9, a free air sniff of the vehicle was conducted leading to a search of the interior. During the search a loaded 9mm handgun was located. The handgun had been previously reported stolen from the State of West Virginia. Piper was placed under arrest and searched revealing 30 grams of suspected Methamphetamines, and 30 Capsules of suspected heroin/fentanyl on his person.
Piper was transported to the Allegany County Detention center pending an initial appearance at the District Court.

Also Thursday deputies conducting an investigation into possible possession and sales of illegal controlled drugs arrived at a residence in the 11000blk of Valley Road, Cumberland, MD. As a result of the investigation suspected Methamphetamines, Heroin, Crack Cocaine, Fentanyl, MDMA (extacy), LSD, psilocybin mushrooms, Oxycodone, Xanax, and Suboxone were located in large quantities of each inside the home. Additionally, numerous packaging items, including digital scales, plastic baggies ,empty gelatin capsules and nearly $10,000 in U.S. Currency was also recovered. John Tyler Wilson (24, of Cumberland, MD) was placed under arrest and transported to the Allegany County Detention Center pending an initial appearance at the District Court.
