Senator Attends Hearing on Info Sharing Between Schools

A special legislative hearing in Annapolis discussed schools sharing key information on transfer students with a criminal history.  State Schools Superintendent Carey Wright said legislators need to address communication breakdowns between the Department of Juvenile Services and schools.  State Senator Mike McKay said he may sponsor such legislation in January because many think clarification is needed on the information transfer…

   

“I think there needs to be some chain of process of chain of receipt. So if I send you an email and it goes to your spam, I did what I was supposed to do. But if I communicate with a paper trail, the person receiving it needs to acknowledge like the SRO in that school says I understand that Johnny has committed these things and yes, I understand that I need to now take the proper channels to take care of Johnny in my new school system.”
