A massive search and rescue effort was underway last night at Rocky Gap State Park as a caller to 911 reported seeing an individual fall through the ice. Allegany County Emergency services supported by Cumberland Fire Department, Cumberland Police Department, Allegany County Sheriff's office, Maryland State Police and DNR search the icy lake and surrounding area for the individual for 3 hours. Maryland State Police Trooper 5 conducted an aerial search of the lake using his thermal imaging equipment and indications of broken ice. While at a lower altitude drones conducted searches utilizing its thermal imaging of the lake and surrounding woodland. First responder suspended the search just after 8 p.m. after not finding any evidence of the individual are broken ice on the lake.
