October 28th, 2024 by WCBC Radio

Director of the UPMC Western Maryland Center for Breast Care, Dr. Blanche Mavromatis, spoke with WCBC about the latest recommendations in breast cancer prevention screening.  Dr. Mavromatis said women with no family history of breast or ovarian cancer should begin their screenings at the age of 40 while other may start earlier…

“I think for the woman who has a family history of somebody in the family with breast cancer at a younger age, you have to start screening about 10 years before that. These are new recommendations from the American College of Radiology that we follow.”
