Scholarships awarded to Ten Martinsburg VA Medical Center Employees

Ten Martinsburg VA Medical Center employees received scholarships at an awards ceremony on May 30th through the Department of Veterans Affairs Employee Incentive Scholarship Program (EISP) in conjunction with the National Nursing Education Incentive and the VA National Education for Employees Program.

According to Anny Jenkins, Martinsburg VAMC Acting Scholarship Coordinator, the scholarships denoted the dedication of Medical Center employees toward professional growth and development.

“This program is important to the Martinsburg VA Medical Center as we are committed to investing in the education of our employees to create a more skilled and educated workforce, which in turn helps our Veterans,” said Jenkins.

Scholarship recipients were Akosua Karikari to Maryville University for a Master’s of Science in Nursing – Nurse Practitioner in Adult Gerontology, Lisa Longley to Liberty University for a Doctorate of Nursing Practice, Kevin Morgan to Western Governor’s University for a Master’s of Science in Nursing – Informatics, Jacquelyn Haynes to Western Governor’s University for a Master’ s of Science in Nursing – Education, Katrina Lanham to Western Governor’s University for a Master’s of Science in Nursing – Education, Timothy Koons to George Washington University for a Master’s in Business – Healthcare Administration, Katelyn Sutherland to American Public University for Bachelor’s in Health Information Management, Conner Romick to Blue Ridge Community and Technical College for an Associate of Nursing Science, Onshia Webster to West Virginia Junior College for an Associate of Nursing Science, Marlaiah Ogletree to Shepherd University for a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing.

EISP authorizes the VA to award scholarships to full and part-time Veterans Health Administration employees pursuing degrees in healthcare disciplines for which recruitment and retention of qualified personnel is difficult.

 

Kenneth Allensworth (left), Martinsburg VAMC Director, signs the Employee Incentive Scholarship agreement with scholarship recipient Lisa Longley. Longley is currently the Intensive Care Unit Nurse Manager and is pursuing her Doctorate of Nursing Practice at Liberty University. She is slated to graduate in May of 2024.
