Although financial questions remain and the years-long effort to restore its historic steam engine is not yet complete, Westerm Maryland Scenic Railroad officials remain optimistic the tourist train can resume daily excursions this summer. The railroad board announced a newly appointed committee last week to get tighter control of the train's fiscal operations. However, that did not stop the county commissioners from demading an audit. While those issues are being resolved, board member and Frostburg Mayor Bob Flanigan say engine 1309 is just a a few months from being ready to roll.
