With gas prices now exceeding $5 in most of Maryland- and despite renewed pleas from the governor and the comptroller- it appears there is no desire on the part of General Assembly leaders to approve a new gas tax holiday. The lack of action has Lt Governor Boyd Rutherford branding state leaders as cowards. In March, lawmakers passed emergency legislation signed by Governor Larry Hogan to give drivers a break at the pump, however they declined to extend it- and have since rejected calls for a special session. Democrats have explained that the extension would rob the Transportation Trust Fund of $150 million. The lack of action, at a time when many Marylander’s are struggling to buy gas to get to and from work, is a point of frustration for Rutherford…
