Frostburg State University recently announced that it has earned the 2023-2024 Military Friendly School designation marking the 12th consecutive time that FSU has received this distinction. The Military Friendly Schools list honors colleges, universities and trade schools across the country that go above and beyond to embrace America’s military service members, veterans and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus.
Institutions earning the Military Friendly School designation were evaluated using public data sources and responses from a proprietary survey. More than 1,800 schools participated in the 2023-2024 survey, and FSU is one of 665 schools earning the Military Friendly appointment.
“Military Friendly’s standards provide a benchmark that promotes positive outcomes and support services that better the educational landscape and provide opportunity for the military community,” said Kayla Lopez, national director of Military Partnerships, Military Friendly. “Schools who achieve awards designation show true commitment in their efforts, going over and above that standard.”
Methodology, criteria and weightings were determined by Viqtory, which serves military personnel and their spouses transitioning into civilian life, with input from the Military Friendly Advisory Council of independent leaders in higher education. Final ratings were determined by combining the institution’s ability to meet thresholds for retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, persistence and loan default rates for all students and specifically, for student veterans.
“Frostburg State University has worked very hard to be military-friendly and continue with serving students who served,” said Clarissa Lang, director of the Veterans Services Office. “Our students have the support they need by having their own veterans center on campus where they can study, meet with other students, receive counseling services and so much more.” Lang continued, “We are proud of our veteran community and will continue improving our services to help them!”
FSU will be showcased along with other 2023-2024 Military Friendly Schools in the May and October issues of G.I. Jobs magazine and online at www.military.com.
