WCBC Classic Hits 107 is a co-sponsor of a special event coming to the downtown area in October. Rock The Block is a day-long destination event slated for Saturday October 12 on Pershing Street and Merchant’s Alley. The event will celebrate the completion of the downtown renovation project and relive the golden years of the 1980s. Becky McClarran of the Downtown Cumberland Business Association tells WCBC that themed live music will bring back memories of the 80s…
"Milk Mountain, from Frederick, and the big name is Reagan Years from Hagerstown. And if you haven’t heard them you need to go on line and hear them because they bring back the 80’s just like it was.”
Along with live music, there will be contests and other activities along with food, drink, and adult beverage options…
“Cartridges Galore is going to set up a Tetris contest for us. We going to have some Rubik's cube little things giveaways because Rubik’s cubes were big in those days too! So we are going to try to re-live the 80’s a little bit here.”
Current sponsors of the Rock the Block include Chessie Federal Credit Union, Downtown D'atris Pasta and Subs, Liberty Street General Store Sandwich shop and Craft Table, and co-sponsors, WCBC Radio Classic Hits 107, Allegany County Historic Society and the Downtown Cumberland Business Association. Rock the Block is a free community event and is seeking sponsorships with other local businesses.
