The rare “ring of fire” eclipse that occurs on Saturday may not give quite the show to Maryland as to other parts of the country. The annular eclipse will happen Saturday, starting just after 12:30pm and last till around 2:40pm. The peak of the eclipse will occur at about 1:18pm. The annular eclipse occurs when the moon lines up between earth and the sun, leaving only a rim of light visible – the “ring of fire.” NASA experts say the best view will be in the southwestern US, with Maryland only seeing a partial eclipse of about 30%. The next big sky event will be in April of 2024 with a total solar eclipse.
