Cumberland City Police have had a number of errant drivers getting stuck on the new Baltimore and Liberty Streets during the construction period. But today at 9am, ten lucky winners will officially be the first drivers to legally take vehicles through the new downtown. The Cumberland Economic Development Corporation sponsored a special raffle for the opportunity to be the first traffic on the new streets. Proceeds from the raffle will help downtown restaurants purchase outside seating. The CEDC’s Stu Czapski tells WCBC the winners and merchants are excited about the event…
“We’ve raised almost $4000 including a CEDC match and the ten winners are really excited about it, they’re into it. Some will be dressing up in costumes and having a good time. So it’s all about celebrating the street and celebrating those who have helped through this whole process.”
WCBC Radio will have live coverage of the Ride in the History just after 9a.m. this morning. You can also watch all of the festivities in downtown Cumberland from our Cumberland camera perched atop the Kensington. Sponsored by our partners Virtual Railfin, Western Maryland Scenic Railroad and Skypacket network. Just go to WCBCradio.com and click on the camera link on the left hand side of the screen.
