The close-out results of the fiscal year that ended in June, plus new revenue estimates for the current and upcoming years add up to $4 billion of good news for Maryland’s budget. In Maryland, the amount of federal stimulus’ provided in 2020 and 2021 through last July equaled 9.4% of the state’s economy. And economists say that Maryland has not yet seen the full effects of the economic stimulus- projecting that will come out over the next year or two. Despite all of these encouraging numbers and projections- the state’s outgoing Comptroller, Peter Franchot, isn’t nearly as optimistic, suggesting that there could be some challenging fiscal times ahead…
