Congressman David Trone (D-MD), founding member of the Bicameral Abraham Accords Caucus, released the following statement on the first anniversary of Hamas’ terrorist attacks:
“One year ago, over 1,200 innocent men, women, and children were murdered by Hamas terrorists. In their homes and at a music festival for joy and unity, these victims were brutalized—targeted because of their nationality and faith. This horrific act of bloodshed marked the largest massacre of Jewish people since the Holocaust. Over 250 more innocent people were taken hostage, including 12 Americans, many of them later killed in captivity. I continue to hope for a peaceful return of the hostages still alive and the remains of those who were killed.
“Today, we look back at a year of deadly conflict caused by the terror set forth on October 7th. In its wake, millions of Israelis and Palestinians have suffered the consequences of Hamas’ actions.
“The United States will stand strong with Israel and support its right to defend itself against terror, and we must also look toward long-term security and harmony throughout the region. In the months ahead, we must recommit to rebuilding a peaceful future that promises freedom, prosperity, and dignity for both Israelis and Palestinians.”
