The U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation has voted to send the Railway Safety Act of 2023, sponsored in part by U.S. Senators Bob Casey and John Fetterman to the full Senate for consideration. The proposed legislation is designed to prevent future train derailments by improving rail safety procedures and protocols and increasing fines for wrongdoing by rail carriers.
