It is going to be another pre-Labor Day start for local students in the next school year. The Allegany County Board of Education unanimously approved the 2023-24 school calendar at a meeting last week. In 2016, then Governor Larry Hogan, pointing to tradition, advocated that school systems start the school year after the holiday, saying a longer summer break would benefit families, businesses and the state’s tourism industry. While many school systems across the state have opted for a post Labor Day start- the Allegany County schedule for students will begin August 23rd.
