Positivity Rate High, Vaccinations Low in Allegany County

As of August 17, 41.5% of Allegany County residents were fully vaccinated against COVID-19, compared to 60.3% of all Marylanders.  Health officials continue to urge unvaccinated members of the public to get their vaccine as soon as possible.

The Allegany County Health Department continues to offer free COVID-19 vaccinations every Wednesday on the ground floor of the Willowbrook Office Complex, 12501 Willowbrook Road, Cumberland.   From 9 a.m. to noon both the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccines are offered for those age 18 and older.  Then, from 1 to 4 p.m. the Pfizer COVID vaccine is offered for those age 12 and older.  No appointment needed.  Anyone under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

  • New COVID Cases:  33 (cumulative total 7,307)
  • Additional Deaths:  0 (cumulative total 215)
  • Cases Per 100,000 Population:  22.52 (Maryland: 15.39)
  • Positivity Rate:  7.62% (Maryland: 4.92%)

Mondays from 2 to 7 p.m.; Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. 
No appointment or insurance card required.  (PLEASE NOTE:  Testing WILL be available on Friday, August 20 at the ballfield area of the Allegany County Fairgrounds.  Although it was previously announced that COVID testing would be canceled on that date due to an event at the Ag Pavilion, the health department stated Wednesday that testing will continue as scheduled this Friday at the fairgrounds ballfield.  Next week, testing will resume at the Ag Pavilion as usual.)
