About 46 pieces of the Thrasher Carriage collection were put up for auction on Saturday. The collection of carriages and sleighs from the 18- and 1900s is displayed at the Allegany Museum, Allegany County Fairgrounds, and at the Thrasher Carriage Museum in Frostburg. County Administrator Jason Bennett said the decision to auction excess pieces was made with the museum to free up storage space and half of the auction proceeds will go to the museum…
“We decided we need some room in that building for elections training and storage space and Sheriff’s training and storage space. We worked with the Allegany Museum to get their blessing to surplus those pieces of the collection that they don’t need either.”
