On April 10, 2025, at approximately 6:00 p.m., emergency personnel including the Cumberland Police Department, Cumberland Fire Department, and the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office responded to Interstate 68, eastbound, prior to the Beall Street exit 43A, related to a tractor-trailer crash.
Upon arrival, first responders found that the tractor-trailer had lost control and driven over the guardrail, partially down the embankment, with the trailer still hanging, blocking lanes #2 and #3.
The driver, identified as Mani Kumar Biswa, 39 years old, from Columbus, Ohio was checked at the scene by the Cumberland Fire Department and transported to UPMC to be examined. The extent of his injuries is not known, but at the time his injuries appeared to be minor.
The crash scene and the extended period it took for the removal of the vehicle caused the entire eastbound side, to be closed for several hours while the vehicle was removed from the scene.
The Maryland State Highway Administration responded to assist and help clean the roadway before reopening.
The Cumberland Police Department would like to thank our allied agencies who assisted us with this crash.
