On March 12th, 2022 the Cumberland Police were called to investigate a hit and run accident involving a Cumberland Fire Department ambulance. Upon arrival the investigating officer learned that the ambulance was traveling on I-68 W/B and was exiting at Maryland Ave, when an SUV struck them, traveling the wrong way on the exit ramp. The vehicle then fled the scene. A short time later, information was received that the suspect vehicle was seen parking at a residence on the 300 block of Race St. Officers responded there and observed the suspect vehicle parked. It had heavy front end damage. Officers then contacted the owner, Rohan Shane Duykers, age 53 of Cumberland, MD inside the residence. Officers interviewed Duykers and determined that he had been operating the vehicle when the crash occurred. Duykers was also observed to be under the influence of alcohol. After conducting Field Sobriety, Duykers was placed under arrest and taken to police headquarters. He was later released after receiving several citations related to the hit and run and DUI/DWI offenses.
