F-16 fighter jets were scrambled from National Guard bases in New Jersey and Washington after a civilian plane broke the “no fly” zone in the Capitol area on Sunday afternoon. A Cessna Citation plane was reportedly in flight from Tennessee to New York and when intercepted by the fighter jets it was found that the pilot was unresponsive in the cockpit. The plane eventually crashed near the George Washington National Forest in Virginia. The fighter jets were authorized to fly at supersonic speeds to catch up with the plane, causing a sonic boom that was heard throughout the Eastern Shore and Virginia.
