Suicide is the third leading cause of death for young people ages 10-24 in Maryland. The Maryland Action Plan to Prevent Suicide in Schools from the Department of Health is tailored to different audiences including educators who are often first points of contact for struggling students. The plan equips them for effective suicide prevention techniques, intervention, and follow-up. Dr. Mariana Izraelson of Grassroots Intervention in Howard County spoke with WCBC Radio and said there are common warning signs that someone may be considering suicide…
“When you see them isolating. When it is very clear that they are slowly regressing. So anyone that you would see not enjoying normally the things they would enjoy or basically not connecting with others, not doing the things they love. That’s a very significant warning sign. Also not eating, not sleeping, acting not like themselves.”
