Some Marylanders’ utility bills are set to go up hundreds of dollars starting next year, according to a state agency report. The Office of the People’s Council says that PJM Interconnection, the regional energy grid operator is to blame.
Baltimore Gas and Electric customers will see increases of $250 or more per year starting in 2025 while locally, Potomac Edison customers may see a monthly increase of around $18. The OPC’s David Lapp told WBAL reporters that PJM is behind schedule in assuring adequate power generation…
“We’re also seeing, sort of, the results of PJM’s lack of forward and proactive planning. The retirement for example of Brandon Shores and Wagnor’s Coal Plant. Those fossil fuel plants was entirely foreseeable.”
