One of the names mentioned as a possible replacement for District 1 State Senator George Edwards has been his son, Paul Edwards.
Paul Edwards is the current chairman of the Garrett County Commissioners and has also served as Mayor of Grantsville. In a statement released this morning, he announced he would not run in 2022 to replace his father, but instead would run for reelection as county commissioner.
"I have been humbled by the overwhelming outreach encouraging me to run for the Maryland Senate to follow in my father's footsteps. With all of the rumors in the community, and with speculation in regional and state media sites that I am entertaining such an effort, I want to publicly state that I am not going to run for the Maryland Senate in 2022.
"I have filed to once again run for commissioner in my great county and look forward to continuing to try to make Garrett County a better place for all who live here. I ask for your support in this endeavor, as I believe I can best serve my community in that role at this time."
