Construction Downtown Saturday
Triton Construction has informed the city that it will be working downtown on Saturdays now as well as during the week. Melinda Kelleher of the DDC told merchants that work should not begin until 8 a.m. Kelleher added that more of the sidewalk areas will be impacted by ongoing work.

Lincoln Street Motor Vehicle Theft
Saturday, July 15th, 2023. Stolen M/V*** On Friday, July 14th, 2023, The Cumberland City responded to the 700 block of Lincoln St for the report of a m/v theft. Once on scene, officers leaned that a Jeep Liberty had been stolen from the area. The vehicle then struck 2 parked vehicles as it fled the area. Hampshire County Man Jailed for Murder
A Hampshire County man is in custody after he allegedly shot and killed a man who was attempting to repossess a vehicle at his home, West Virginia State Police said. Michael McCaughey, 39, of Augusta, was charged with second-degree murder following the incident about 12:40 p.m. Thursday in the Golden Drive area. Police identified the victim as Cody Carlin, 27, of Hagerstown. Carlin and a co-worker went to the McCaughey residence to take possession of a vehicle when, according to police, McCaughey saw what the two were doing and became irate. FSU Men’s Track & Field, Cross Country Teams Earn All-Academic Team Awards
All-Academic Teams for the 2023 NCAA Division II Men's Track & Field seasons were announced on Thursday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Frostburg State had their men's team earn the distinction, which requires that the team as a whole be above a 3.0 GPA. Additionally, earlier the USTFCCCA had announced the Cross Country All-Academic teams, to which FSU also qualified for, including Justus LePrevost being named an individual All-Academic member.
Frostburg Seeking Grant Dollars for Signage
Frostburg’s Community Development office is seeking grant money for new signage at Glendening Park. On the agenda for the Thursday Mayor and Council meeting is discussion of a grant request for around $20,000 to the Appalachian Forest National Heritage Area. Director of Community Development Bethany Fife says that this is the first time that Frostburg has been eligible to apply for a grant with the organization as many previous grants were directed toward West Virginia. The All-Star break ends today. The new Orioles lease at Camden Yards has not been signed. In a joint statement from the Orioles and Maryland Gov. Wes Moore issued Thursday, the parties insist progress is being made toward securing the Orioles’ long-term future in Baltimore at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. The Orioles have called Camden Yards home since 1992. The park began a wave of stadium designs that took the best attributes of old-time parks and merged them with modern amenities. N. Centre Street closed on Monday, July 17th
The City of Cumberland Engineering Department, on behalf of Triton Construction, would like to notify the public that N. Centre Street will be closed to thru traffic between Union Street and Frederick Street from 6:00 AM on Monday, July 17th to 6:00 PM on Thursday, July 20th. Signage will be in place to detour passenger vehicles around the road closure. Pedestrian traffic will also be re-routed around the construction at the intersection with Baltimore Street. Construction continue to plague downtown businesses
Triton Construction has begun tying in the new underground utility to buildings requiring the closure of sidewalks but not all businesses were informed, disrupting access to their front doors.
