Specialist (Spc.) Corey A. Moore, 25, a Soldier assigned to the West Virginia National Guard 821st Engineer Construction Company, passed away following a motor vehicle accident on the afternoon of September 10, 2023. Winter Market Will Need Volunteers
Plans for a winter market and festival on the Canal Place Plaza are in the works by the Downtown Development Commission and help is going to be needed. The market is planned for late November and early December and will be happening in tandem with the Polar Express trains of the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad. Frederick Street CDS Arrest
On Friday, September 15, 2023 at approximately 6:15 PM, an officer of the Cumberland Police Department was on patrol in the area of Frederick Street at Linden Street when he observed a vehicle that was parked partially in the travel lane. The officer contacted the operator who was identified as Dillon Lowery. Lowery consented to a search and was found to be in possession of suspected crack cocaine. He was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters. Lowery was later released on a criminal citation pending trial. BENCH WARRANT SERVED
On Saturday, September 16, 2023, the Cumberland Police Department served a bench warrant on David Stanfield Jr. The warrant was issued as the result of Stanfield failing to appear in court on August 24, 2023. He was originally charged with driving without a license. Stanfield was arrested and transported to Central Booking. Allegany County has been named one of the Best Places to Visit During Fall by USA Today’s 10Best, securing the second spot on the top 10 list. A panel of travel experts partnered with USA Today’s 10Best editors to select the initial 20 nominees. The public had the final say, voting on the best destination during a four-week online voting contest. The Mountain Side of Maryland finished in the second spot behind Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Other destinations getting votes included Mackinac Island, Branson Missouri, Stowe Vermont, Greenville South Carolina, Bayfield Wisconsin, Cody Wyoming, Taos New Mexico and Asheville North Carolina.
