Busy Holiday Weekend for Frostburg Police

DWI/DUI and Resisting. On May 31, 2021, at 11:20 p.m., Frostburg City Police responded to East Main Street for a report of a female dancing in the roadway. Upon arrival of the first officer, the female threw her shoes at the police car. The female was later identified as Emily Beth Creegan, 28, of Cumberland. Officers observed Creegan’s vehicle parked partially on the shoulder and partially in the East Main Street roadway. While investigating at the scene, officers learned that she had been driving home and suspected she was impaired. City Man Charged with Assault Following Recent Standoff with Police

On Tuesday, June 1st, 2021 the Cumberland Police Department served an arrest warrant on Raymond Anthony Osbourne charging him with 1st and 2nd degree assault.  The warrant was issued by District Court in reference to an incident that occurred on May 23rd, 2021 when officers responded to a Memorial Avenue residence to check on the welfare of male that was reportedly acting strange.  When officers arrived, they initially contacted the male at the door who was identified as Raymond Anthony Osbourne.  While speaking with Osbourne, he became upset and closed the door and moments later he returned to a window…

City Council Holds First In-Person Meeting Since Spring 2020

During the first meeting open to the public at City Hall since last spring, the Cumberland Mayor and City Council approved the FY 2022 budget; and officially appointed an interim city administrator. After hopes for a bipartisan January 6 commission collapsed last week, Democrats may have a new plan to investigate the attack on the Capitol: A select House committee, which would not require Republican support to establish. County Officials Expect to Make Education-Related Budget Adjustments

While Allegany County officials have already voted to finalize the county’s $96.5 million fiscal year 2022 budget- some changes are expected to be made this month as additional dollars will be required to go toward education. That action made necessary as the result of the state Kirwan Education reform legislation. The Board of Education asked for $31.2 million in funding from the county for the coming fiscal year, which was just $1 above last year’s request. Hogan Congratulates Marylanders for Achieving 70% Vaccination Goal

Maryland Governor Larry Hogan announced this week that the state reached its goal of vaccinating 70% of adults in the state by Memorial Day. Hogan said that the state's aggressive vaccination efforts will continue “to make sure no arm is left behind."  Hogan made the announcement, saying President Biden set a goal for 70% of the country's adults to get the shot by July 4th and that Maryland set the goal of doing that by Memorial Day. More Details about Weekly WV Vaccination Incentive Prizes Revealed

West Virginia Governor Jim Justice announced more details about a weekly lottery style drawing of prizes for state residents who have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine that will kick off Father’s Day and run through August  4. Maryland to discontinue enhanced pandemic unemployment benefits

Gov. Larry Hogan Tuesday announced that the State of Maryland will discontinue enhanced pandemic federal unemployment benefits and reinstate work search requirements early next month. Potomac Edison Using Aerial Saw to Trim Trees in Remote Areas

Potomac Edison, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE: FE), is using a helicopter equipped with an aerial saw to trim trees and maintain electrical clearances along six difficult-to-access transmission line corridors in Maryland, West Virginia and Virginia. The work began on May 20 and is expected to conclude in mid-July.
