On Monday, January 24th, 2022 officers from the Cumberland Police responded to the 200 block of Pear St for an assault. Upon arrival officers contacted a male and female on scene. The two advised that they had been involved in an argument. During the argument, the male grabbed the female by the throat and strangled her. The female victim also alleged that the male had threatened to stab her with a knife. The male admitted to grabbing the female. Based on the investigation, Seth Winfred Sykes, age 28 of Cumberland MD was placed under arrest. He was charged with First Degree Assault and Second Degree Assault. He was taken before the District Court Commissioner and was held without bond at the Allegany County Detention Center.
