Along with commercial watermen and boaters in Ocean City, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources also has skin in the game when it comes to solving inlet shoaling.
On Thursday, Sen. Mary Beth Carozza (R-38) took federal, state and local officials on a boat tour through the inlet to bring attention to the issue of the channel’s worsening navigability.
From the DNR’s perspective, one of the great problems with an unnavigable inlet is the fact that many commercial fishermen who work off Maryland waters will turn to safer inlets, like those in New Jersey, to unload their catches.
