On Thursday, February 20, 2025 at 3:36 PM, an officer of the Cumberland Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Baltimore Street. The operator of the vehicle, David Ambrose, exited his vehicle and began approaching the officer in an aggressive manner. Ambrose was yelling and causing a disturbance. He refused to listen to the officer’s order to lower his voice and to stop causing a disturbance. Ambrose’s behavior attracted the attention of multiple people in the area. Ambrose was placed under arrest and transported to Central Booking. He was later seen by a District Court Commissioner and released on his personal recognizance.

On Sunday, November 24, 2024 at approximately 1:34 AM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department were investigating an assault complaint in the 900 block of Bedford Street when they received an additional call for service regarding a suspicious male subject hiding in the bushes. The suspicious subject matched the description of the suspect in the assault incident. Police located the male subject and identified him. During the investigation, officers learned that the male subject had provided them with false identification to avoid being arrested for an active warrant through the State of Indiana. The male was later identified as Ben Metheny. Metheny was placed under arrest and transported to the Allegany County Detention Center. He was later seen by a District Court Commissioner for a bond hearing on the on-view charges. Metheny posted a $1,000 unsecured personal bond. The warrant was used as a detainer. Metheny is currently being held at the Allegany County Detention awaiting extradition.
