Plans for a large grand opening weekend are in the works for Downtown Cumberland’s completed Baltimore Street Project. A ribbon cutting on November 14 will be followed by a community celebration featuring a parade on Saturday November 16. However, plans for that day are not sitting well with at least one merchant – Awesome Gifts and Collectibles – that sits at the corner of Baltimore and Centre Streets. Owner Jim Weir would like to get back to business as usual and remain that way…
“Two days later they’re closing it for a parade. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have anything against having a parade, but I mean – these streets have been closed for 18 months, okay? Nobody’s funded me. Nobody’s given me any money. Open it up – leave it open.”
