On Monday, July 24th, 2023, The Cumberland City Police responded to a residence in the 100 block of North Mechanic St for a trespassing complaint. Upon arrival on scene, officers located a male subject sleeping on the front porch at the property. Officers awakened the subject and ordered him to gather his belongings and leave the area. At this time, the subject became irate and began yelling obscenities at officers. After repeated requests, the subject refused to cease his disruptive behaviors. The subject then began to spit on officers. As a result, Eric Robert Channing, 33, of Cumberland MD, was placed under arrest. He was taken before the District Court Commissioner for his Initial Appearance where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. He is currently being held on $2500 bond.
