With a price tag now much higher than originally projected- the Cumberland Mayor and City Council decided this week to hold off on the idea of adding a splash pad adjacent to the Constitution Park swimming pool. A splash pad or spray pool is a recreation area for water play that has little or no standing water. The city began discussions on the concept earlier this year receiving an overview and design options from the engineering department. At one point the hope had been that construction could begin as early as this fall, with a projected opening next summer. The city received new costs estimates during a recent work session- approaching $400,000 and that number gave pause to Mayor Ray Morriss.
