New Commission To Oversee Juvenile Justice

November 5th, 2024 by WCBC Radio

Retired U.S. District Court Judge Andre Davis will head a new commission appointed by Maryland Governor Wes Moore to oversee the state’s juvenile justice system. In the midst of calls for the resignation of director Vincent Schiraldi, the commission of 26 members will track how new reforms are working to deter youth crime. Judge Davis told WBAL reporters that the focus with the new reforms is rehabilitation rather than punishment…

“We’re not concerned with punishment. We’re concerned with rehabilitating young people who have been traumatized in any number of ways, who have suffered themselves from failures in various systems.”
