New Allegany County Health Officer Named

Following a nationwide search by the Allegany County Commissioners & Maryland Department of Health, Junie Delizo, M.D., MPH has been appointed to the position of Health Officer of the Allegany County Health Department. Dr. Delizo brings over 25 years of public health experience to Allegany County, including expertise in epidemiology, emergency preparedness, and public health administration.
Early in his career, Dr. Delizo served as Medical Officer at President Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Hospital in the Philippines. After immigrating to the United States, he joined the Rockland County Department of Health in New York as Director of Emergency Preparedness/Public Health where he served for 17 years.
During the COVID-19 Pandemic, Dr. Delizo worked as an epidemiologist for the Florida Department of Health in Seminole County and the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services. He also served as a contract epidemiologist for the COVID Emergency Response Unit in the School Support Section of the CDC’s State, Tribal, Local, and Territorial Branch. He comes to Allegany County from his most recent appointment as Deputy Director of Public Health for the Lackawanna County Department of Health and Human Services in Pennsylvania.
Dr. Delizo earned his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Medicine degrees from Saint Louis University, Baguio City, Philippines. He also holds a Master of Public Health in International Health and Epidemiology and a Graduate Certificate in Vaccine Science and Policy from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.  Dr. Delizo began his tenure as Allegany County's Health Officer on June 30th, replacing Interim Health Officer Margaret Wright who also serves as the health department's Director of Physical Health and Nursing. Wright stepped into the role of Interim Health Officer following the departure of the previous Health Officer, Jenelle Mayer, in September 2022.
