The Allegany County Commissioners on Thursday announced the new health officer for the county. Gena Spear, who has been the interim health officer, will now be holding the position officially. Spear was appointed as interim in November of 2023 when Dr. June DeLizo resigned after just four months in the position. County Human Resources Director Kristie Liller introduced Spear and talked of her previous roles at the Finan Center and the Allegany County Health Department…
Prior to her interim roll, Miss. Spears had been employed as the Allegheny County Health Department, Director of Administration Services for 3 years. Miss. Spear was previously employed at the Thomas B Finan Center as assistant Director of Fiscal Services for 15 years, and Chief Fiscal Officer for 5 years. She has a bachelor degree in accounting and a minor in business administration from Frostburg State University."
Spear spoke to the commission on new projects at the health department and the staff working there…
"We just started a new reproductive health clinic and our director there is very, very passionate. We're starting a new nutrition program and I look forward to leading all the great people and making sure we keep the residents of Allegany County healthy as we can keep them."
