A stabbing on Saturday at North Branch Correctional Institute injured two prison guards, sending one to Morgantown for treatment of injuries. The incident occurred around 11:15 Saturday morning. The suspect did not receive any injuries and is being questioned by investigators at the prison. Union representatives for corrections workers said this is another incident underlining the need for more staffing and security at Maryland’s prisons.

The Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services has released the following:
A 39-year-old inmate serving 35 years for 1st degree murder was assaulted by two fellow inmates this morning at about 8:15 a.m. at NBCI and was taken out 911 with non-life threatening wounds.
He suffered several puncture wounds to the torso and head and the suspects were apprehended and the homemade weapon recovered.
No further information is available at this time as investigators are still gathering information on the incident.
