Morrisey Files Appeal on Reassignment Surgeries

July 29th, 2024 by WCBC Radio

The state of West Virginia has filed an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court regarding state Medicaid coverage of sex-reassignment surgeries. Attorney General Patrick Morrisey announced the state of West Virginia should have the option of whether or not to fund such surgeries through Medicaid.

"In this particular case the state of West Virginia was sued for denying Medicaid coverage for sex reassignment surgeries. Now our state's Medicaid program made a reasonable decision to reserve scarce funding for medically necessary treatments not elective surgeries."
