Moose Curve Issues Hard To Address

July 26th, 2024 by WCBC Radio

A caller to WCBC’s Dave Norman program on Thursday expressed the concerns of many about truck traffic on Interstate 68 near the Moose Curve. Through the years, several trucks have either lost their brakes or lost control due to speeding through the tricky section of highway. Most recently, a truck driver lost his life when his truck crashed and burned on the curve.  Mayor Ray Morriss told WCBC News that policing speed is difficult in the area…

"The real issue there also is  where do you pull them over. You know you got to wait until you're off the crosstown bridge and not passed Willowbrook Road."

Morriss said the issue with truck speeds and burning brakes needs to be addressed on the highway well before trucks reach the Moose Curve…

"You want to stop them prior to them starting down the hill. Thing is they've come down Big Savage all the way from Friendsville, all the way down into LaVale so that's when they need to have their brakes checked prior to coming down into Moose curve. Once they're all ready to Moose curve it's too late."
