Maryland is one of only a handful of states that do not allow the sale of beer and wine in grocery and similar stores. That may change during the coming General Assembly session. Governor Wes Moore has said it’s time to make the change – he has heard from people and businesses across the state who are tired of making two stops – at a grocery store and then liquor store. Some lawmakers are cautious, saying that control of where and how many licenses should be allowed, citing higher incidences of alcoholism among certain communities.
