Moore, Buckel Talk Decade Act

March 4th, 2025 by WCBC Radio

Governor Moore’s time in front of the House Ways and Means Committee on Tuesday gave House Minority Leader Jason Buckel the chance to highlight the needs of Western Maryland. Moore was testifying on his Decade Act designed to jumpstart economic growth. Buckel is concerned about the region being left outside the tech bubble of middle Maryland…

“I’m terrified that we get back to our entire economic development incentive program focusing on those five or six or seven counties because they already have so much.   They already have so much and we need more.  But they have bio tech, they have life sciences, they have quantum computing, they have those things. We don’t have any of it. And my goodness, we’d like it. We’d love for people like that to come there.”

The Governor said he would be open to working with Buckel to shape the bill to help Western Maryland…

“The answer is ‘absolutely.’ We look forward to working with you to make sure we can perfect what we’re offering because something I am and have been hypersensitive to is if you’re not coming up with something that is recognizing the unique opportunity that exists within every part of the state, then having growth in certain parts and a decrease in certain parts is actually not an advantage for the state.”
