Allegany College of Maryland has received $750,000 for early-stage construction of a resilient microgrid on its Cumberland Campus. The Maryland Energy Administration is providing the funding and the college will work with Optimize Renewables to implement the renewable energy project. Campus spokesperson Kristin Kehrwald tells WCBC that ACM will be the only community college in the state with a microgrid…
“What having a microgrid does for us is it kind of makes the campus a facility of refuge in times of emergency. So even if we are without grid power, because it removes us from being dependent on other energy sources. It can also help us maintain and deal with critical loads and keep those operational if there is a grid outage.”
