Following the announcement of new state restrictions, Bob Atlas, president and CEO of the Maryland Hospital Association, is speaking out, saying there are some deeply concerning trends to watch. He shared his insight on what's happening with some hospitals and the handling of the pandemic. Atlas said that although coronavirus patients can take up 10% of overall beds, the impact is actually occurring on a larger scale. Across the UPMC system, including the Western Maryland facility, COVID-19 cases occupy about 7% of hospital beds. Doctors Rameen Shafiei and Christina Sensabaugh, both Allegany County natives, are on the frontline at UPMC Western Maryland.
