Governor Wes Moore is expected to sign legislation for the Child Victims Act of 2023 when it reaches his desk. Maryland House and Senate members have identical bills in committee now and need to approve them before it comes before the governor for signature. The legislation opens the time period child sex abuse survivors can bring lawsuits. Currently, suits must be filed before the survivor reaches 38 years of age. It also increases the liability to $1.5 million dollars for claims involving private institutions for damages such as pain and suffering and caps liability for governments and school boards at $890,000.
