McKay Will Submit Bill For PTSD Treatment for First Responders

September 6th, 2024 by WCBC Radio

Maryland Senator Mike McKay will be proposing a bill in the next General Assembly that will authorize first responders to receive treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. As technology advances, 911 callers will be able to grant first responders phone access to video real-time situations. McKay says these responders will witness traumatic situations and the bill would enable those to receive treatment if needed…

"That is wonderful technology to help solve problems and help people. I just think of all the mental health issues that are going to come with that, I'm  worried about our dispatchers having to watch horrific things in real time and then having to deal with that so, we're going to be putting a bill forward to take care of those correctional officers, Police officers, Fire, emergency medical service, and dispatchers allowing them for the ability to be treated for post traumatic stress disorder."
