The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad Board of Directors has elected Delegate Mike McKay to serve as president, as officials continue working toward the debut of steam engine 1309 and a return to daily excursions to Frostburg. The tourist train has been essential closed since the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic. Cumberland Mayor Ray Morriss attended this week’s board meeting and reports that the hope is that COVID restrictions will be reduced enough to allow for a July start up.
During this past year with operations ceased- crews have made great progress in restoring the historic 1309 and hope to have it ready to roll in just a few months…
